WELCOME!

Welcome to Indiana Tech
and to my personal webpage!

My name is Beth Wiesner and I am an Assistant Professor of Therapeutic Recreation here at Indiana Tech.  I have been at Tech since the fall of 2002 and just finished my second year of teaching.  I can't say enough about my time here!  I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know my students, the faculty and staff, and the overall feel of Indiana Tech.

Just a few brief comments about me and my background.  I grew up and graduated from high school in Sioux Falls, SD, lived in Missouri for several years (St. Joseph, Maryville, and Kansas City), and received my undergraduate degree at Northwest Missouri State. After that I lived in Omaha, NE for seven years and received my masters from the University of Nebraska in Omaha. (Go Huskers!)  Then I moved to my "ideal" location in the northern woods of Minnesota.  I lived in Brainerd, MN (two hours north of Minneapolis) for two years before I took this job at Indiana Tech and moved here.  Minnesota was beautiful and I hated to leave, but I can say now that it was a great move!  My family is really far away so I'm thankful for long summer and winter breaks so I can travel home to see them.

One of the best things about working at this school is the "smallness" of it.  I had never experienced a "small school" atmosphere before and I was surprised at the good things it has to offer.  I know each and every one of my students by name (maybe not always at the beginning of a semester), I'm passionate about them as individuals, and care deeply about their ultimate success.  I not only enjoy teaching my students but also advising them, helping them set up and run Student Organizations (The Student Recreation the Leisure Society and Phi Epsilon Kappa), and taking them to professional conferences.  I oversee three different majors here at Tech; Human Resource Management, Recreation Management and of course Therapeutic Recreation. All of these majors have one overriding theme which brings them together; they all focus on working with people and that is my personal overriding theme as well.

In addition to my students and this institution, I'm passionate about God, my family and friends, animals, the outdoors (especially water), music and art, football, spontaneity, and helping people with disabilities lead a life of  wholeness and joy through recreation and leisure.

Please feel free to drop by my office, call or email if you have any questions or if you just want to chat. My door is always open!
