WELCOME

Thanks for visiting my web page.  Being on the faculty of Indiana Tech is an absolutely rewarding experience.  I love teaching, and I especially enjoy teaching adults. Not only is the teaching a stimulating experience, but the association with my colleagues provides great joy and an added dimension to my life.

When I am not engaged in teaching and related activities, I explore my other interests.  I love  music (I sing and play the piano and organ), travel, cooking and collecting cookbooks, artistic endeavors, politics, and writing.   Since I am a collector of "things,"  I have a passion for yard sales and book stores.  I am a storyteller and find various ways to use the power of story.

Since I haven't learned it all yet, I find ways to add to my education.  Last year I completed another doctoral degree in theology/ministry from the Graduate Theological Foundation in a partnership with University of Oxford (UK) and the University of Notre Dame.  I was born in England and have some roots in Ireland.  We moved to the US when I was a small child, so I subsequently lost my British accent.

My free time also allows me to serve as a visiting professor for the Department of Theology  for Marian College.  I occasionally teach courses for teachers in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis who are working toward certification or re-certification.  These courses involve the educational and psychological philosophies of Fowler, Kohlberg, and Erickson and the stages of faith and moral development.  I recently designed a course for Vincennes University in The Literature of the New Testament.  The students enrolled in the course are adults, much as our CPS students.

I also teach some on-line classes for Taylor University.  I am just completing a course in British Literature and am developing two new courses -- one in Shakespeare, the other in World Literature.  I am developing a new course for Indiana Tech, American Cornerstones, a course studying the founding documents of this great nation.  With  the help of Thompson Publishers, I am writing the text, an anthology, really.   It should be coming off  the press sometime this fall.  Let me add that I am blessed with many opportunities  to learn.  I just completed a course at The Ohio State University in grant writing. As a result, I am now a certified grant  writer.  Now I can find ways to get funding for projects here at IT.  It is a joy to be a member of the National Writing Project and serve as a Teacher Consultant to teachers and students in our public schools.

In addition to my cat, Theo, I have three sons -- Kevin, Kent, and Geoff.   They have been both a challenge and a blessing.  It is amazing how much we learn from our children.

Please check out my website from time to time.  I shall keep adding tidbits of interest and new links.

Blessings on you as you pursue your degrees.  Even more important, blessings on you as you strive to reach you potential and become the wonderful, unique person you were destined to be.

Kathleen
